You Can't Choose How You're Made
You are absolutely right my bigoted friend. We can't. I know, I know what you meant. You think that we choose to change gender. That couldn't be further from the truth though. What we do as transgender individuals is attempt to become who we really are. That takes years of hormones and multiple surgeries. We aren't trying to be something we're not, which is not something I can say for the majority of people so I can see where you'd get confused.
We can choose our style of dress, we can even choose our religious beliefs and affiliations. We can also choose to be assholes or we can choose to attempt to understand people who are different from us. I never made a choice in being a male and when my choices are making my body agree with my brain or die, I don't consider that a choice. In this instance, the body is much more malleable than the brain. The working theory is that transgender individuals such as myself receive the hormones for a baby of the opposite gender in utero this causes us to have actual brains of the gender opposite that of our biological sex.
So I agree, we can't choose how we're made, that is obvious, but saying that to a transgender individual just makes you look insanely retarded. I'm telling you this because only you can fix that. You can continue to say stupid shit like that, or you can learn and prove that you're not an idiot.
We cannot choose to be cisgender any more than you can choose to be transgender. We truly can't choose how we're made. For actual transgender people, it's transition or die. That's just all there is to it. That is not a choice. And for those of you who think conversion therapy is a thing, fuck you. Conversion therapy is abuse, all it does is show just how unwanted we are in society and teaches us how to hide from everyone and ourselves in order to make the majority of people more comfortable. Fuck that shit, and fuck anyone who thinks that should be the norm. One thing I'm never interested in learning to tolerate is abusive beliefs.
So learn that we're here, we don't mean you any harm. We just want to pee and have our truth recognized on our paperwork. Trust me, if we don't receive that recognition on paper, there are those of us who will just say fuck your governments entirely. Which is pretty much my stance. Keep me an outsider, and I will thrive on the outside, while you all squabble for scraps of dignity to be handed to you.
